(SNews) – The House Oversight Committee has launched an investigation into the controversial sales of Hunter Biden’s “art” after details of one of the buyers were exposed.
As Slay News recently reported, prominent Democrat donor Elizabeth Hirsh Naftali, a Los Angeles real estate investor, was uncovered as one of the anonymous buyers.
Shortly after Joe Biden was sworn into office, his son Hunter suddenly declared that he was an “artist.”
Hunter Biden then announced that he would be selling off his “artwork” for millions of dollars.
However, the White House announced that it would manage the sales of Hunter’s “art” and the buyers’ identities would be kept hidden from the taxpaying public that would be funding the operation.
Biden’s White House promised that Hunter would never know the identities of the buyers, despite the fact that he was spotted at the exclusive invite-only exhibitions, schmoozing with the buyers.
Hunter’s “artworks,” which were panned by art critics, sold for upward of $500,000 per piece.
Despite the Bidens’ best efforts to conceal the identities of the buyers, Naftali was exposed in a report from Business Insider.
Naftali was named as a buyer in Hunter Biden’s $1.3 million “art” sales.
However, the key issue is that Naftali was awarded an appointment to a prestigious commission from President Biden shortly after Hunter started selling off his “artwork.”
Naftali is an active donor in California Democrat circles.
Just this year, she has donated $13,414 to the Biden campaign and $29,700 to the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
In 2022, she also hosted a fundraiser for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Eight months after Hunter Biden’s first art exhibition, President Biden announced in July 2022 that he was appointing Naftali to the prestigious Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad.
Membership on the commission is an unpaid but highly-coveted position that is often filled by campaign donors, family members, and political allies.
Those vying for the prestigious role are the same crowd that often winds up with US ambassadorial appointments.
Naftali’s fundraising activities mark her as the kind of well-connected donor who often pursues such appointments.
It is unknown if Naftali’s purchase occurred before or after her appointment to the commission.
However, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) is demanding answers.
“The White House has stated that ‘Hunter Biden would be walled off from knowing the identities of his buyers in an attempt to separate his business dealings from his father’s administration’,” Comer said.
“Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden’s lawyer, told reporters that the gallery ‘does not disclose the names of any purchasers to Mr. Biden.’
“This system, however, seems to have failed, because Elizabeth Hirsh Naftali’s identity as a purchaser of this art has become public,” Comer wrote.
A press release issued by the Oversight Committee on Monday further revealed that Naftali has visited the White House at least 13 times since December 2021.
“The Committee is concerned Hunter Biden has used his new career as an artist to peddle influence in and access to the White House,” Comer continued.
In addition to Naftali, Hunter Biden’s team reportedly knew the identity of at least two additional buyers despite denials from the White House.
One mystery buyer purchased more than $875,000 of Hunter Biden’s art.
The documents obtained by Business Insider do not reveal that buyer’s identity, however.
