Hunter Biden’s attorneys have asserted that the recently disclosed payments into his father’s bank account were related to a car purchase. These recurring payments were made to President Joe Biden’s bank from his son’s Owasco PC account, which had received substantial amounts from Chinese state-owned corporations.
In response to House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer’s characterization of the payments as evidence of the president’s involvement in corrupt dealings, Hunter’s lawyer Abbe Lowell, former impeachment attorney for Bill Clinton, dismissed the claims. Lowell explained that the three payments of $1,380 each in September to November 2018 were reimbursements for car payments on a truck that Joe Biden had bought for Hunter when credit was unavailable.
“There Chairman Comer goes again — reheating what is old as new to try to revive his sham of an investigation,” Lowell said in a statement.
“The truth is Hunter’s father helped him when he was struggling financially due to his addiction and could not secure credit to finance a truck.
“When Hunter was able to, he paid his father back and took over the payments himself.”
Joe Biden indeed purchased a 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor truck for his son Hunter in June 2018, as confirmed by a car dealership, with additional vehicles traded in during the transaction. The details of this deal and associated payments to Joe Biden are reportedly found on Hunter Biden’s laptop, according to the Wall Street Journal. However, the payments on the laptop are not explicitly labeled as car payments, and there is no concrete evidence establishing that these transfers were specifically intended for the vehicle purchase.
Additionally, the explanation for why the payments did not match the total cost of the truck remains unclear. It’s worth noting that around the same period, Hunter Biden also acquired the firearm for which he is currently facing federal charges. Federal authorities allege that he provided false information about his drug use on the gun permit forms at that time.
“This wasn’t a payment from Hunter Biden’s personal account but an account for his corporation that received payments from China and other shady corners of the world,” Comer said about the findings.
“At this moment, Hunter Biden is under an investigation by the Department of Justice for using Owasco PC for tax evasion and other serious crimes.”
Comer asserted that the payments “are indicative of a consistent pattern, showing Joe Biden’s awareness of, involvement in, and gains from his family’s influence-driven activities.” Expressing skepticism, Comer rejected the notion that these transfers were solely for car-related expenses. He highlighted the numerous meetings between Joe Biden and his son’s business connections during the period when these international payments were being processed.
“As the Bidens received millions from foreign nationals and companies in China, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Kazakhstan, Joe Biden dined with his family’s foreign associates, spoke to them by speakerphone, had coffee, attended meetings, and ultimately received payments that were funded by his family’s business dealings,” the committee added in a press release.
Comer emphasized the absence of documentation specifically designating the payments as car-related expenses. He further highlighted bank records demonstrating Hunter Biden’s substantial income from foreign entities, indicating that he had the financial means to purchase a car outright, without relying on credit or loans.
“They assume the majority of Americans at the end of the day are going to be financially illiterate,” he said during an appearance on Newsmax.
“People know that if you make a loan, you receive a loan repayment, you should have a copy of the check that you made the loan to.
“I mean they’re just not being honest with the American people.
“They want to say, ‘Well the president’s son couldn’t qualify for a truck loan’ for what, $40,000, but then China loans him $5 million, Russia loaned him $3.5 million, the list goes on and on.
“But he can’t even get a car loan? It makes no sense,” he said.
The Biden family has still failed to explain for an additional $40,000 payment made by Joe Biden’s brother, James. This transaction raised concerns at the bank, being flagged as a potential case of money laundering.
