Nobody appreciates a bully, particularly one who takes pleasure in gloating and eagerly anticipates delivering another blow while the supposed victim is already down. Letitia James, the New York Attorney General, fits this description perfectly. Her focus is solely on Donald Trump, whom she sees as her potential victim. However, it would be wise to caution her against celebrating prematurely, as such behavior can have disastrous consequences, even if it appears that the fight has been rigged against him.
On Friday, Judge Arthur Engoron publicly announced his predetermined verdict, stating that Trump had exaggerated his net worth in order to secure favorable loan terms. As a result, Engoron imposed a fine of $354.8 million on Trump, in addition to nearly $100 million in pre-judgment interest, for both benefiting the banks and himself, as reported by ABC News.
It didn’t take long for Letitia James to seize the opportunity to bask in the limelight and revel in the prospect of inflicting further harm upon Trump. James boldly declared her readiness to seize Trump’s assets if he fails to produce the necessary funds to cover the imposed fine.
“If he does not have funds to pay off the judgment, then we will seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court, and we will ask the judge to seize his assets,” James said in an interview with ABC News’ Aaron Katersky.
It is truly disheartening to witness such a blatant act of adding insult to injury. James seems to be acquiring knowledge from none other than the former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who openly expressed his disagreement with Michelle Obama’s famous quote, “When they go low, we go high.”
“Michelle always says ‘When they go low, we go high,’” Holder said at a camping event in Georgia. “No. No. When they go low, we kick them.”
James expressed her strong belief in the robustness of her case on appeal. Additionally, she emphasized that her office would not hesitate to take possession of Trump’s assets in the event that he is unable to pay the fine. Her excitement was palpable when she specifically mentioned Trump’s 40 Wall Street skyscraper.
“We are prepared to make sure that the judgment is paid to New Yorkers, and yes, I look at 40 Wall Street each and every day,” James said.
“Financial frauds are not victimless crimes,” James continued. “He engaged in this massive amount of fraud. It wasn’t just a simple mistake, a slight oversight, the variations are wildly exaggerated, and the extent of the fraud was staggering. If average New Yorkers went into a bank and submitted false documents, the government would throw the book at them, and the same should be true for former presidents.”
Bullies such as James often intrude into the affairs of others. This is a common behavior among bullies. Moreover, they typically retreat promptly when the potential target stands up and defends themselves.
