The Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling on Monday rejected the Democrats’ attempts in various states to prevent former President Donald Trump from appearing on presidential primary ballots. According to the court, only Congress has the authority to hold candidates accountable for “insurrection” under the 14th Amendment. Upon hearing the decision, leftists in Maine, Colorado, and other states who tried to exclude Trump from the ballot must have been extremely surprised. One can hardly imagine a more unbalanced reaction than that of Keith Olbermann, who transformed from a sports commentator to a political commentator and expressed his extreme views shortly after the court’s ruling was announced.

“The Supreme Court has betrayed democracy,” Olbermann wrote. “Its members including Jackson, Kagan and Sotomayor have proved themselves inept at reading comprehension. And collectively the ‘court’ has shown itself to be corrupt and illegitimate.

“It must be dissolved,” he added.

There is a lot to unpack in that statement. The fact that Olbermann did not even hesitate to consider the possibility that his opinion might be uninformed is just the tip of the iceberg. Even if this was a 6-3 decision based on ideological lines, his argument would still lack credibility.

To prioritize his own viewpoint over the unanimous agreement of nine legal and constitutional experts suggests that Olbermann’s ego, mental state, ignorance, denial, or something else is at play. According to him, these nine individuals are not only unfit to serve on the court, but they are also incapable of reading.

Fortunately, he proposed a solution to address what he perceived as an issue with the separation of powers established by the nation’s founders – eliminate the separation of powers entirely by abolishing the court, likely under the direction of one of the other two co-equal branches of government. This proposal is undeniably risky, especially coming from someone lacking credibility.
