Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has conveyed a chilling message in response to the threats posed by Iran. In a statement, Netanyahu made it abundantly clear about the potential actions his nation might take if the existing tensions with Iran intensify.
“Israel will do whatever it needs to defend itself,” Netanyahu said.
The statement was made following individual meetings with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron and Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in Israel on Wednesday. Throughout the discussions, the ministers explored potential actions that Israel could take in response to Iran’s unprecedented, direct assault on Israel over the past weekend.
“They have all sorts of suggestions and advice,” Netanyahu added.
“I appreciate that. But I want to be clear: Our decisions we will make ourselves.”
Baerbock said during the meeting that escalation “would serve no one, not Israel’s security, not the many dozens of hostages still in the hands of Hamas, not the suffering population of Gaza, not the many people in Iran who are themselves suffering under the regime, and not the third countries in the region who simply want to live in peace.”
Netanyahu’s statement comes shortly after Iran’s president pledged to completely annihilate Israel. President Ebrahim Raisi cautioned about the severe consequences if Israel were to engage in even the slightest invasion of Iran. Raisi promised a forceful and extensive retaliation in response to any potential Israeli counterattack.
He delivered this warning during a speech on Wednesday at an annual military parade. In response to an alleged strike on Iran’s embassy compound in Syria on April 1, which resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals, including two Iranian generals, Iran launched numerous missiles and drones at Israel on Saturday.
While the Iranian regime holds Israel responsible for the attack, Israel has not claimed any involvement. Raisi stated that Saturday’s attack was limited in scope, but if the current situation were to escalate, “nothing would remain from the Zionist regime,” as reported by the official IRNA news agency.
