President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign is fully committed to portraying former President Donald Trump as a threat to democracy, especially as recent polls indicate a decline in Biden’s popularity in swing states.

According to CNN, Biden’s campaign has sought the support of three police officers who were present at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, to bolster their latest strategy. Sgt. Aquilino Gonell, Officer Harry Dunn, and Officer Danny Hodges will be highlighting Trump’s alleged threat to democracy in crucial swing states, starting with Nevada and Arizona.

Dunn, who recently faced a defeat in a primary election for a congressional seat in Maryland, has been embroiled in controversy due to allegations of domestic abuse and reports of misconduct during his time with the U.S. Capitol Police. Having left the USCP in 2023, Dunn’s involvement in Biden’s campaign is part of a broader effort to emphasize Trump’s perceived danger to democratic values.

In a bold move on Tuesday, the Biden campaign held a press conference outside the Manhattan courthouse, where the trial of Trump’s business records by Democrat Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is nearing its conclusion. The press conference featured actor Robert De Niro, who made alarming claims about Trump potentially becoming a dictator if reelected, along with Dunn and Michael Fanone, another Capitol officer from January 6 who has since become a CNN contributor. Dunn also authored a successful memoir titled “Standing My Ground” in 2023.
