Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) declared her intention to engage in a vigorous confrontation should affluent Democratic Party supporters seek to replace Vice President Kamala Harris with Lina Khan as the chair of the Federal Trade Commission.
Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks came in response to statements made by Mark Cuban, a supporter of the Harris-Walz campaign, who indicated to Semafor that he would not keep Khan in her position if he were in Harris’s shoes. The Shark Tank investor noted that he has not had any discussions with Harris or her team regarding Khan. Cuban also criticized Khan’s regulatory approach towards technology firms, particularly her views on artificial intelligence, as reported by the New York Post and other media outlets on Thursday.
“The bigger picture is, she’s hurting more than she’s helping,” Cuban said.
Harris supporters, including LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and Expedia Group chair Barry Diller, have expressed significant criticism towards Khan. Additionally, Cuban articulated his discontent with Khan in posts on X, describing artificial intelligence as a “zero-sum race for global dominance.”
“This is about AI. It’s a zero sum race for global dominance,” he wrote. “If we lose, the consequences are far more than economic. We have multiple companies fighting to win this race. And that competition is moving everyone forward. Even with the insane amount of capital required.”

A self-identified democratic socialist from New York utilized the X platform to criticize billionaires who are engaging in covert alliances with the Democratic Party’s candidates.
“Let me make this clear, since billionaires have been trying to play footsie with the ticket: Anyone goes near Lina Khan and there will be an out and out brawl. And that is a promise,” she wrote. “She proves this admin fights for working people. It would be terrible leadership to remove her.”
