A fact-check concerning former President Donald Trump’s statements about violent crime rates in the United States, made during the ABC News presidential debate in September, has proven to be unsubstantiated.
In the debate with Vice President Kamala Harris (D), Trump emphasized that crime has been a significant issue for Americans under the administration of President Joe Biden (D) and Harris, as reported by Fox News on Friday.
After Trump announced that crime across the nation is “through the roof,” moderator David Muir butted in, saying, “President Trump, as you know, the FBI says overall violent crime is actually coming down in this country.”
NEW: FBI updates crime statistics showing that violent crime *increased* not decreased.
Trump was fact-checked during the debate after he (correctly) asserted that crime had increased.
