A progressive group has recently initiated a new advertising campaign that urges President Joe Biden, a Democrat, to withdraw from the 2024 election. This campaign has gained traction among a significant portion of young and progressive Democrat voters who are not wholeheartedly supporting Biden’s re-election bid. These voters believe that there are better alternatives within the Democratic Party for the presidential nominee.
The Washington Examiner has reported that a progressive group closely aligned with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), known as the No Excuses PAC, has launched a determined effort to remove and replace Biden as the presumptive Democrat nominee. The No Excuses PAC, led by Trent Corbin, who previously served as Ocasio-Cortez’s communications director, has shifted its focus from encouraging progressive policy positions to advocating for Biden to “step aside” and allow other Democrat candidates to compete for the party’s nomination.
The PAC’s website now prominently displays the message, “Thank you, Joe. Now it’s time to go,” and presents arguments for why someone other than Biden should lead the Democrats in the 2024 election, potentially against former President Donald Trump.
“President Biden, you’ve accomplished more in three years than most two-term presidents,” the PAC says in a new 30-second ad.
“But battleground state voters say they’ll vote for Trump if you’re the Democratic nominee.
“It might not make sense. But it doesn’t have to.
“The reality is that if you attempt to cling to power, your legacy will be Donald Trump’s final destruction of our democracy.
“If you step aside, however, you’ll be remembered as one of the greatest presidents in history.
“Thank you, Joe … But now it’s time to go.”
The No Excuses website requested that viewers of the advertisement contribute a minimum of $3 and offered a user-friendly link to the Act Blue fundraising site, which is aligned with the Democratic Party, for this purpose.
According to the organization, the funds collected could be utilized to extend the campaign’s reach beyond social media and enable the airing of the ad on television and radio in Washington, D.C. This strategic move aims to garner media attention and initiate a substantial discussion among Democratic leaders in 2024.
The political action committee (PAC) concluded by acknowledging President Biden’s remarkable achievements during his presidency.
“And that will be his legacy — if he steps aside.
“Otherwise, he will go down in history as the president whose selfishness allowed Trump to complete the destruction of American democracy.
“That’s why it’s time to say, ‘Thanks Joe, but now it’s time to go.’”
The No Excuses PAC, a progressive group, is not the only one within the Democratic Party expressing doubts about President Biden’s re-election campaign. According to Yahoo News, a majority of Democrats, 54%, wanted to see another candidate challenge Biden for the party’s nomination. This sentiment was particularly strong among Democrats aged 18-44, a crucial constituency for the party.
More recently, USA Today reported that key segments of the Democratic coalition that helped elect Biden in 2020 were now showing signs of erosion. Polling indicated a decline in Biden’s support among black voters, dropping from 87% to 63%. Additionally, he was trailing President Trump among Hispanic voters, with a margin of 39-34%. In the past, Biden had won the Hispanic vote by a wider margin of 65-32%.
Surprisingly, Trump was leading Biden among voters under 35 by a margin of 37-33%. This age group typically leans towards supporting Democrats by a significant margin.
The polling also revealed that Vice President Kamala Harris was not providing much assistance to Biden. Her approval and favorability numbers were even worse than his. Around 20% of minority and young voters were considering voting for a third-party candidate. Furthermore, the entry of third-party candidates into the race seemed to draw more support away from Biden than from Trump.
In September, The Hill reported that Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was treading carefully. While she endorsed President Biden’s re-election effort in July, her fellow progressives criticized her for it. She also appeared to withhold support as a surrogate for the president on the campaign trail. It was speculated that Ocasio-Cortez could potentially prevent a progressive uprising against Biden if she voiced stronger support for his candidacy. However, her silence in 2024 could contribute to the same uprising against the incumbent president, who is viewed unfavorably by the far-left faction of the party, to which she belongs.
