White House employees have allegedly prepared a manual containing images and guidelines for President Joe Biden to navigate to the podium during various occasions.
One section of the detailed document, as revealed by Axios, displays a “large image of the event area” across multiple pages, accompanied by prominent text stating “View from podium” and “View from audience.” According to reports, the document also includes two distinct photographs labeled “Walk to podium.”
An individual who had purportedly assisted with an event for the president within the last year and a half informed the outlet that the White House had elevated a “simple fundraiser at a private residence” to the level of a “NATO summit.”
“I staffed a simple fundraiser at a private residence, but they treated it like it was a NATO summit with his movements,” the person told the outlet.
The outlet notes that:
“Before a presidential event, the White House sends event staffers a document to emulate when preparing their own materials for the president.”
The Institute of Politics and Public Service at Georgetown University defines an advance team as the group responsible for managing the logistics and operations of significant events, typically on a political campaign or for a political organization. According to the outlet, advance work in politics is considered to be “intensive and detail-focused” for every President of the United States.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates told the outlet that advance work involves “high levels of detail and precision” regardless of the current president. Numerous individuals expressed on social media that this was unusual, whereas others noted that this was a standard practice in advance work.
