The White House’s most recent addition to its communications team found himself in a position of damage control when his past social media posts resurfaced. Tyler Cherry, the newly appointed associate communications director, faced criticism after a Fox News report on Friday highlighted his posts from 2014-2017. These posts included calls to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and criticisms of the nation’s police forces. In an attempt to address the situation, Cherry took to Twitter on Sunday, stating that his previous social media posts do not accurately represent his current beliefs.

“Past social media posts from when I was younger do not reflect my current views. Period. I support this Administration’s agenda – and will continue my communications work focused on our climate and environmental policies,” Cherry wrote.

The Hill reported that screenshots of Cherry’s past social media posts were circulating on Twitter, resulting in increased scrutiny.

“Police = slave patrols. Voter ID = poll taxes. #NAACPBombing = KKK bombings. Neither slavery nor Jim Crow WERE THAT LONG AGO. We just evolved,” some of the screenshots reportedly read.

According to a report by Fox News in 2023, Cherry expressed his solidarity with Palestine in 2014 amidst the Gaza conflict, which occurred following an attack by Hamas, a recognized terrorist group, on Israel.

“Cheersing in bars to ending the occupation of Palestine — no shame and f— your glares #ISupportGaza #FreePalestine,” Cherry wrote in a tweet, Fox News reported.

Cherry also wrote that Republicans were focused on “white grievance politics.”

“The Tea Party was never about the debt/deficit but about racism and white grievance politics,” another post read, according to the outlet.

“We’re very proud to have Tyler on the team,” White House deputy Andrew Bates told Fox News.
