If President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign decided to join TikTok in an attempt to connect with younger voters, it may need to reconsider its strategy now. Despite the fact that Biden signed a law in December 2022 prohibiting federal workers from using TikTok on government devices, his campaign started posting on the Chinese-owned social media platform this week.
However, this move has faced criticism, and as NBC News pointed out on Thursday, the campaign’s TikTok posts are now being inundated with negative comments. Gen Z users have expressed their discontent with Biden’s policies and his ability to fulfill his duties. Not only are users mocking the TikTok account of an 81-year-old man who seems out of touch, but they are also seizing the opportunity to voice their frustrations about the president’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Beneath Biden’s first post, a video titled “lol hey guys” where he engages in a game of “Would You Rather?”, there are angry comments from pro-Palestinian individuals, along with jokes about his cognitive abilities.

The comments section of his second video is inundated with remarks regarding “Butcher Biden” alongside Palestinian flag emojis. Likewise, his latest videos are overwhelmed with comparable feedback, encompassing numerous inquiries about Rafah, the city situated on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

The president’s position on the Middle East is highly unpopular among TikTok users who are regular users of the platform. According to a recent NBC News poll, only 15 percent of registered voters in the 18-34 age group expressed approval for the Biden administration’s handling of the Israeli-Palestinian issue.
For young TikTok users, it is imperative that there is a strong condemnation of Israel and what they perceive as its “genocide.” The fact that Biden’s campaign has only been on the platform for a few days and is already facing intense criticism does not bode well for his chances of re-election.
Many young people on TikTok harbor a deep hatred for former President Donald Trump, the leading candidate for the Republican Party in the upcoming presidential election, akin to the animosity typically reserved for serial killers.
However, this same group is now directing their animosity towards Israel and those who refuse to denounce its actions. The backlash on TikTok poses yet another challenge that Biden and his campaign must overcome if they wish to retain the presidency.
