A week after a jury in Manhattan convicted former President Donald Trump of falsifying business records, a recent poll sheds light on the potential impact of the verdict on voters. According to a survey conducted by Emerson College and released on Thursday, Trump holds a slight lead over President Joe Biden with a margin of 46% to 45%.

The poll indicates that support for the former president has remained unchanged since last month, while support for Biden has seen a modest increase of 1%. However, when considering independent voters, the results are evenly split, with 50% expressing their intention to vote for Trump and 50% favoring the 46th president.

Regarding the question of whether Trump’s guilty verdict will influence respondents’ voting decisions, 46% stated that the trial’s outcome would have “no impact on their vote.”

On the other hand, a mere 27% of participants stated that it increases their inclination to vote for Trump. In contrast, 33% expressed that it diminishes their likelihood of voting for him.

“A majority of Democrats say it makes them less likely to support Trump (51%) and a majority of Republicans (55%) say it makes them more likely to support Trump. A plurality of independents say it makes no impact (41%), while 38% are less likely to vote for Trump and 21% more likely.” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said.
