House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has expressed his views on the investigations involving former President Donald Trump. In a recent interview on “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo, the Ohio Republican labeled the legal proceedings against Trump as a coordinated effort to influence the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
“Alvin Bragg [is saying] President Trump was involved in a conspiracy to obstruct the 2016 election. And Jack Smith is saying President Trump was involved in a conspiracy to interfere with the 2020 election. It seems to me the truth really is, Alvin Bragg and Jack Smith are in a conspiracy to impact the 2024 race and frankly, Fani Willis is a part of the effort as well,” Jordan said.
“When you look at what happened at the Supreme Court, it looked like the arguments went very well for our side. When you look at what happened there, everyone’s saying, Oh, this is probably going to get sent back to a lower court and they’re going to sort through the facts and that will take time and there won’t be a trial before the election,” Jordan continued.
“All the mainstream media’s talking about, oh, we’re not going to have a trial before the election. Why the heck does that matter? I thought you were focused on getting to the truth and the facts?” he asked rhetorically.
“It’s all political for these folks. And here’s the other thing, Maria. Bragg is — the crime he’s trying to get to is, oh, President Trump was involved in a conspiracy to obstruct the 2020 — 2016 election. And then Jack Smith is saying President Trump was involved in a conspiracy to interfere with the 2020 election. Seems to me the truth really is Alvin Bragg and Jack Smith are in a conspiracy to impact the 2024 race. And, frankly, Fani Willis is part of that effort as well. That’s what the American people see,” Jordan declared.
Bartiromo then insisted Jordan give specifics, saying that “people are sick and tired of congressional investigations that go nowhere.”
“That’s going to take time and there won’t be a trial before the election. All the mainstream media’s talking about, oh, we’re not going to have a trial before the election. Well, why the heck does that matter? I thought you should be focused on getting to the truth and getting to the facts. No, no, no, it just points out it’s all political. It’s all political for these folks. And here’s the other thing, Maria. Bragg is — the crime he’s kind of trying to get to is, oh, President Trump was involved in a conspiracy to obstruct the 2020 — 2016 election. And then Jack Smith is saying President Trump was involved in a conspiracy to interfere with the 2020 election. Seems to me the truth really is, Alvin Bragg and Jack Smith are in a conspiracy to impact the 2024 race. And, frankly, Fani Willis is part of that effort as a well. That’s what the American people see,” Jordan said.
Bartiromo quickly asked: “At this point, American citizens are asking what can you do about it. I mean, look, with all due respect, people are sick and tired of congressional investigations that go nowhere. People are sick and tired of letters being written and sent to the people who we know are bad in the first place. They want you to do something about it. You are an elected official. What can you do to right these wrongs?”
Jordan responded: “Well, we’ve passed legislation out of the committee that would help remedy this situation, particularly the one in New York, the president or vice president can move a case to federal court for when you do these state prosecutors who are going after someone for a political reason. So, we’re a legislative Branch. We can’t put anyone in jail. And I don’t think the Biden Administration, their DoJ, is going to go after the people they need to go after. You’re just not going to get that from Merrick Garland.”
“I mean, I asked a question a couple weeks ago, you know, what — we all know, from the Biden Administration, who planted the pipe bombs on January 6th, who leaked the Dobbs draft opinion, you know, the one that led to an assassination attempt on Justice Kavanaugh, who put cocaine in the White House? We don’t seem to get the answers to those questions, but, oh, you can have someone like Jack Smith go after President Trump, you can have the DoJ say, ‘We’re going to investigate parents who show up at school board meetings,’ you can have the Richmond FBI say, ‘Oh, if you’re a pro-life Catholic, you’re an extremist,’” Jordan added.
He continued: “So they’ve got time for all that, but they can’t answer some fundamental questions that I think the American people would like to get answers to. Our job is to get the facts out there and to look at legislation. We can’t prosecute anyone, only the DoJ can, and frankly, the Biden DoJ’s just not going to do it.”
