Tragic: Conservative Legend Passes Away

(CBrief) – A former senator who was seen as a beacon of conservatism during his tenure has passed away.

Former New York Sen. James L. Buckley, who successfully campaigned to represent New York in the United States Senate in 1970, has died at the age of 100, The New York Post reported.

The outlet added:

Buckley’s death in a Washington, DC, hospital was the result of complications from a fall, his nephew, author and political satirist Christopher Buckley, told the New York Times Friday.

NYC native Buckley, the older brother of National Review founder William F. Buckley Jr., catapulted to national fame with his victory for the Conservative Party in the three-way Senate race between Republican incumbent Charles Goodell — who had been appointed by Gov. Nelson Rockefeller to serve out the term of the assassinated Robert F. Kennedy — and Democrat Richard Ottinger.

Buckley, who had sought to challenge Goodell for the GOP line but was rejected by state party officials, hammered both the Republican and the Democrat for their dovish stances on the Vietnam War. With the tacit backing of President Richard Nixon, Buckley won the election with just 38.8% of the vote.

“It is with great sorrow that the Conservative Party marks the passing of former U.S. Senator James Buckley. The life and accomplishments of James Buckley will forever be linked with the Conservative Party. In 1970, he made history, when he was elected to the Senate solely on the Conservative Party line; we owe him an enormous debt of gratitude,” The Conservative Party of New York said in a press release.

“In fact, all New Yorkers and the nation has lost a man who spent most of his long life in service to his country.

“James Buckley is the only American to hold senior roles in all three branches of government,” it said.

“From World War II naval service through a term in the US Senate, senior roles in the Reagan Administration, and years on the Federal Bench, James Buckley’s legacy will be praised and studied for generations to come. A member of a family who played a key role in forming the modern conservative movement, James Buckley was a ‘man for all seasons.’ He will be greatly missed,” the release noted further.

“Senator James Buckley was a conservative beacon for Republicans in New York, ushering in the modern conservative movement that I am honored to be part of today. We are sending our prayers to his loved ones as they mourn the loss of a loving friend and family man as well as the conservative giant we came to know,” New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik said.

“Throughout his life, Senator Buckley fiercely defended the principles of the US Constitution and the American people he served. On behalf of New York, we are forever indebted to him for his service, and we will continue to honor his memory by fighting for the conservative movement he built in New York and in Congress,” she said.

“It is with the deepest sorrow that I learn of the passing of my Uncle Jim. James Buckley was an extraordinary man, and anyone who ever spent a few minutes time with him will attest to this. He was an outstanding role model, a warm, thoughtful Christian who served his country with honor and loved his family intensely. He is reunited now in Paradise with his wife Ann, the love of his life, and that is good. My prayers are with his children and grandchildren,” Brent Bozell, the president of the Media Research Center, said.

Heritage Foundation founder Ed Feulner also commented on the death of the former senator.

“Jim Buckley devoted his life to defending constitutional principles of liberty, prosperity, and civil society. From the U.S. Senate to key posts in the Reagan administration to the federal bench, for 40 years, he shaped conservatives’ advances in all three branches of the federal government,” he said.

“In 2010, The Heritage Foundation presented him with our highest honor, the Clare Boothe Luce Award, in recognition of his dedication to the conservative movement. He was 87 at the time.

“Characteristically, Judge Buckley once said he made his most memorable contribution to American politics in 1974, when he defended liberty in taking the issue of campaign finance ‘reform’ to the U.S. Supreme Court,” Feulner added.

“In Buckley v. Valeo, he challenged the constitutionality of a cap on individual contributions to political campaigns. Two years later, the high court struck down significant parts of the Federal Election Campaign Act and established strict limits on the government’s ability to regulate Americans’ political activity,” Feulner continued.

“Also characteristically, Judge Buckley’s book “Freedom at Risk” didn’t just collect essays and speeches spanning his 40 years in politics. It also laid out his specific proposals to preserve America’s constitutional government,” he noted further.

“Heritage got it right in our Luce Award citation. We noted that as a military officer, entrepreneur, statesman, legislator, jurist, author and citizen, James L. Buckley personified the Jeffersonian ideal of service to country. Most important, he did so with dignity, humility, and unfailing devotion to the principles of freedom,” he said.

Breaking: Georgia Republicans Make Bold Move To Save Trump

(CBrief) – State Republicans in Georgia who control the legislature are reportedly seeking new ways to shield former President Donald Trump from what they see as a Democrat-led effort to punish a political foe.

Specifically, MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace reported on Friday during a segment with fellow network colleague Rev. Al Sharpton “that Republicans in Georgia are looking to change Georgia’s rules on pardons after a state senator sent a letter to Governor Brian Kemp, demanding he convene an emergency special session for ‘the review and response to the actions’ of Fulton County DA Fani Willis.”

That said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, top Republicans in the state, where the party holds a substantial majority in both chambers of the legislature, have said rule changes aren’t likely.

A top deputy to House Speaker Jon Burns dismissed the idea, noting that in order to change the rules, it would require changing the state constitution, which can only happen with a two-thirds majority in both chambers.

“Given the political makeup of the General Assembly,” Burns spokesman Kaleb McMichen told the AJC, “such an amendment is not feasible and thus would not merit consideration.”

Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican with whom Trump has sparred in the past over the outcome of the 2020 election in Georgia, has pardon authority, but there are limits.

According to US News:

Similar to a commander in chief, a governor wields executive authority. And Georgia is a solidly Republican state, with a GOP governor, decisive Republican majorities in both chambers of the legislature and a solidly red congressional delegation. So a pardon wouldn’t necessarily generate a seismic electoral wave and might even be welcomed in some quarters.

Yet, for any number of other reasons, a Trump pardon in Georgia is all but out of the question.

For one thing, the authority of Gov. Brian Kemp to issue pardons is not absolute. Georgia is one of six states where pardons are granted by an independent board whose members are appointed by the governor – unlike 41 other states where governors hold such power or share the responsibility with an independent body.

“In a normal process, if you were just a run-of-the-mill federal prisoner, you would apply, go through the DOJ, and the president would green light it or red light,” Amy Lee Copeland, a former federal prosecutor and criminal defense lawyer in Savannah, told the outlet. “Georgia is a lot different.”

“It’s not automatic,” Copeland added. “You don’t get convicted, and then you can immediately apply for a pardon.”

Mike Davis, a former GOP Senate aide who runs a conservative advocacy group, during a Fox News appearance this week, called on state Republican lawmakers to “give Gov. Kemp the ability to pardon in this situation because this is clear election interference.”

The AJC said that there are enough Republicans in the state legislature to pass changes to Georgia’s pardon system, but even if it passed, it’s not certain Kemp would sign it; Trump attempted to get Kemp defeated as he ran for reelection last year.

Still, Georgia Republican state senator Colton Moore, in a letter sent to Kemp, which Breitbart News obtained, Moore announced an initiative to begin an emergency session to investigate the actions taken by Willis after a Fulton County jury indicted Trump on 13 counts earlier this week.

Moore’s investigation could potentially lead to defunding Willis’s investigation of Trump and/or ultimately impeaching the district attorney.

“We must strip all funding and, if appropriate, impeach Fani Willis,” Moore said in a statement. “As a Georgia State Senator, I am officially calling for an emergency session to review the actions of Fani Willis. America is under attack. I’m not going to sit back and watch as radical left prosecutors weaponize their elected offices to politically target their opponents.”

Breaking: Rising GOP Star Surges Past DeSantis to Take Second Place Behind Trump

(SNews) – Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has surged past his GOP rival Gov. Ron DeSantis to take second place in the primary race polls.

A new Echelon Insight poll found Ramaswamy rising among GOP voters while DeSantis’s campaign turns cold.

However, the poll shows that President Donald Trump has a companding 40-point lead over his challengers.

Trump is the clear frontrunner for the GOP nomination.

55 percent of likely primary voters support the 45th president.

But notably, DeSantis, the longstanding second-place option, has continued his descent in the poll, falling into third place.

Ramaswamy received 15 percent support, while DeSantis received just 12 percent in the RNC debate qualifying poll.

Ramaswamy’s second-place stance aligns with a Kaplan Strategies poll released Monday that also found him above DeSantis.

Republican Main Street Partnership president and CEO Sarah Chamberlain said Ramaswamy “has risen well above expectations and is currently leading the pack of challengers.”

Chamberlain said:

While Donald Trump remains the frontrunner, Republican voters seeking an alternative candidate are beginning to coalesce around a few top-tier choices. For much of the past year that was Gov. DeSantis, but Vivek Ramaswamy has risen well above expectations and is currently leading the pack of challengers.

Voters are clearly hungry for something new – no group more than the suburban women who often decide elections.

If Mr. Ramaswamy, Gov. DeSantis, or any of the other hopefuls want a serious chance at winning the nomination, appealing to those voters should be top priority.

After DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence received four percent, while Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott (R) garnered three percent support. Chris Christie is the only other candidate who received at least one percent support.

The Republican Main Street Partnership, in conjunction with Echelon Insights, surveyed 1,017 likely Republican primary voters nationwide from August 15 to August 17. The survey has a ±3.9 percent margin of error.

Nevertheless, there will likely be a shift among Trump’s challengers as the GOP‘s first 2024 debate gets underway next week in Milwaukee.

Alert: Joe Biden PANICS As Jim Jordan Makes His Move

(SNews) – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has issued subpoenas to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The subpoenas were issued as part of the Committee’s ongoing censorship investigation into Democrat President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ).

Jordan wants communications between the FBI and DOJ, private companies, and other third-party groups related to the policing and suppression of disfavored speech online.

The congressman has specifically asked for all documents related to the moderation, suppression, or removal of content online.

A September 15th deadline for the agencies to comply has been imposed.

Jordan said the Committee wrote to the FBI and DOJ requesting voluntary cooperation with oversight.

However, their compliance to date has been woefully inadequate, producing only a single document: a publicly available transcript of a civil deposition of FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Elvis Chan from Missouri v. Biden.

Jordan said the Committee has uncovered evidence that contradicts several statements in Agent Chan’s deposition, particularly as they relate to his communications with social media platforms.

Jordan wrote:

“On April 18, the Committee wrote to you seeking your voluntary cooperation with our oversight.

“Among other things, we asked for communications between FBI employees and private companies, internal communications, and communications between the FBI and other third parties discussing content moderation.

“To date, the FBI has produced only a single document: a publicly available transcript of a civil deposition of Federal Bureau of Investigation Assistant Special Agent in Charge Elvis Chan from Missouri v. Biden.

“Through its investigation, the Committee has uncovered evidence that contradicts several statements in Agent Chan’s deposition, particularly as they relate to his communications with social media platforms.

“This production is woefully inadequate and omits voluminous responsive material, including communications between FBI and tech companies, internal communications, and communications between FBI and other executive branch entities.

“In other words, a federal judge has found that the communications of various executive branch entities with social media platforms, including the Department of Justice, very likely violated Americans’ First Amendment rights.

“Yet you have produced nothing of substance in response to the Committee’s request, which hinders the Committee’s ability to fulfill its constitutional oversight obligations.

“The Committee has engaged with the FBI in identifying the Committee’s highest priority documents and information in both letters to you and during calls with Committee staff,” Jordan said.

Bombshell: Ex-CIA Officer Reveals Evidence Against Biden

(SNews) – A former CIA has reviewed the mounting evidence against Democrat President Joe Biden and his family and stated on Joe Rogan’s hugely popular podcast that “there’s no doubt” that it proves “money laundering.”

Rogan suggested that Democrat power brokers are exposing Biden and his family’s corruption because they don’t think he can win reelection in 2024.

Meanwhile, his guest, former CIA covert operations officer Mike Baker, accused Biden of money laundering.

Rogan said: “I’m an armchair conspiracy theorist but If I had to guess, I would say that all this stuff that’s coming out slowly but surely about Biden is on purpose, and they want to get rid of him.

“I think he wants to run, again and I don’t think the Democrats think that he can win.

“I think they’re right,” Rogan noted.

“And I think they’re going to slowly but surely expose more of these like very clear pieces of evidence of corruption.

“The $20 million is f**kin’ bananas.

“The fact that this isn’t all over The New York Times and The Washington Post and mainstream news, that they’re not blaring it from the rooftops because, you know, they would be — if it was Trump.”

Baker said: “Whether it’s Biden, whether it’s Trump, it wouldn’t matter.

“If you’ve got an a**hole who’s in office and is engaged in pay-for-play right, and there’s no way frankly that this president didn’t know that he was being used as the dog in the dog and pony show right?

“And so they’ve got these records available to them and with the power of the government, their ability to subpoena and do all these things that they can do, they will have the case figured out at some point.

“The problem with Washington is do they have the, do they have the grit to stick with it, right?

“And then the next question is does anything happen as a result?

“But it is, in my mind anyway, there’s no doubt, this is, this is money laundering.

“And it’s pathetic, as you pointed out that there’s so little interest from a completely incurious, a completely partisan significant majority of the media.

“It’s not that they don’t care, it’s that they do care and they’re taking every effort and they’re now having to contort themselves into certain ways because it’s getting more and more difficult to provide top cover for the Biden administration.

“But they’ve been trying.”
