On Friday, officials in Oregon acknowledged a data entry error that resulted in the registration of more than 300 non-citizens to vote in the state since 2021, as reported by the Associated Press (AP).

Kevin Glenn, a representative of the Oregon Department of Transportation, indicated that an analysis performed by the department revealed that 306 non-citizens were registered to vote while applying for driver’s licenses, according to the AP. Glenn further noted that among those erroneously registered, two individuals have cast votes since 2021, despite existing state and federal regulations prohibiting non-citizens from participating in elections, as reported by the AP.

According to Glenn, the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) automatically registers individuals to vote upon the issuance of a driver’s license. He characterized the error as fundamentally a data entry problem, as reported by the outlet. Glenn further elaborated that DMV staff occasionally misrepresent whether an applicant for a driver’s license or state ID possesses a U.S. birth certificate or passport, even in cases where they do not, as noted by the AP.

LaVonne Griffin-Valade, the Secretary of State for Oregon, stated that her office became aware of the issue only on Thursday. On Friday, she released a statement regarding the error.

The secretary said the 306 people “will be notified by mail that they will not receive a ballot unless they demonstrate that they are eligible to vote,” the AP reported.

“While this error is regrettable, the secretary and the Elections Division stand by automatic voter registration and its many benefits,” Griffin-Valade added.

The Biden-Harris administration permitted a Venezuelan migrant and his family to enter the streets of Eagle Pass after they utilized the CBP One mobile application to gain entry into the United States. The migrants reported that they were not questioned about their asylum claims or credible fear prior to their release.

Rodrigo, a Venezuelan citizen who preferred to remain anonymous, and his family wandered the streets of Eagle Pass on Thursday night in search of accommodation. After failing to locate any available migrant shelters and lacking financial resources, Rodrigo was left to find a suitable place for his children to rest. Having just entered the United States earlier that day, he indicated that he was not required to declare asylum to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the port of entry or to respond to any asylum-related inquiries to gain entry through the Biden-Harris CBP One initiative.

Rodrigo’s wife was visibly distressed as the family traversed the streets, hoping to secure shelter. The family of four, which included Rodrigo’s 14-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son, had walked nearly five miles throughout the city. With no funds for food or lodging, they had resigned themselves to seeking an open convenience store where the children could rest while Rodrigo kept watch over them.

The family more than four miles from the Eagle Pass Camino Real Port of Entry, where they had been admitted into the United States and released under the Biden-Harris CBP One asylum program over eight hours earlier. Rodrigo mentioned that the family had waited for a CBP One appointment in Mexico for two months, during which they made numerous attempts on the smartphone application in hopes of securing one of the 1,450 daily appointment slots that facilitate migrant entry into the United States.

This program allows migrants to enter the United States without undergoing a formal credible fear hearing with an asylum officer. Instead of providing justification for their asylum request, Rodrigo briefly recounted his experience. When inquired whether he was obligated to provide a verbal asylum claim during his admission processing or to explain to CBP officers the reasons for leaving his country or the fears he harbored, Rodrigo responded, “No, they didn’t interview us like that.”

Rodrigo indicated that he financed his journey from southern Mexico and did not utilize the newly established Secure Emerging Mobility Corridor busing program, which offers complimentary travel, meals, and security for individuals with a CBP One appointment at one of eight land ports of entry along the southwestern border. This initiative was launched by the Mexican government following a series of bilateral discussions between the AMLO administration and the Biden-Harris administration, which broadened the geographical reach of the CBP One application to southern Mexico.

The CBP One smartphone application operates independently from the recently reinstated program for Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan migrants, which permits up to 1,000 migrants to enter the United States by air each day. Collectively, these two Biden-Harris initiatives facilitate the entry of over 800,000 migrants into the United States annually, ostensibly to pursue asylum claims or under parole status.

The New York Times informed its audience on Friday to anticipate a delay in the announcement of election results in November, cautioning against the assumption that the victor of the presidential election will be known on Election Night. Historically, prior to the advent of modern technology, closely contested presidential elections were often resolved by the early hours of the following day, as exemplified by the 1960 election between Robert F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, which some analysts suggest may have been unfairly influenced against Nixon.

In the contemporary context of the 21st century, the timeframe for determining close election outcomes remains similar or may even extend further, contingent upon the specific state involved. For instance, in 2020, the final election results were not confirmed until four days post-Election Day.

According to the Times, Americans should not anticipate knowing the outcome of the 2024 presidential election on Election Night due to the “stringent security protocols necessary for the counting of mail-in ballots.”:

If a winner is not declared on election night, it will not necessarily point to failures in the process. More likely, it will be a result of the intense security measures required for counting mail-in ballots.

“Election officials across the country are trying to telegraph to voters that waiting long hours or even days for a result is not unexpected in a close election. They are eager to counter conspiracy theorists who may seize on the uncertainty as evidence of fraud or malfeasance. Counting mail ballots takes more time because there are more steps involved. A variety of security measures, including signature verification and ensuring that voters did not also try to vote in person, are required. Election officials must open the ballots and flatten them out before they can be put in a tabulator to be counted.”

The White House maintains that President Joe Biden’s choice to don a hat featuring the name of his previous rival was intended as a “gesture” of “unity.”

On Wednesday, while visiting a fire station in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, a video captured Biden engaging in conversation with an individual sporting a Trump hat, during which he displayed a hat adorned with the presidential seal.

“You gonna autograph it?” the man asked.

Biden responded, “Sure, I’ll autograph it.”

“You remember your name?” the man asked.

Biden responded, “I don’t remember my name… I’m slow.”

The man shot back, “You’re an old fart.”

“Yeah, I’m an old guy… You would know a lot about that,” Biden countered.

When other attendees encouraged Biden to wear the hat, he responded, “I’m not going that far!” Subsequently, he positioned the hat atop his cap, prompting cheers from the audience, while the individual who presented the hat remarked, “I’m proud of you now.”

In her second interview on Friday since entering the race, Vice President Kamala Harris cast doubt on her record within the Biden-Harris administration by asserting that the administration’s policies are not suitable for the “twenty-first century.”

Harris is confronted with a dilemma: she cannot advocate for solutions to issues such as crime, inflation, and border security without contradicting the policies of the Biden-Harris administration, yet she must also promote these policies to support her own record and candidacy.

During a conversation with Brian Taff from Philadelphia’s Action News 6 ABC, which the Harris campaign had assured would take place following criticism of her performance in Tuesday’s debate, Harris indicated that she possesses a new “approach” with “innovative ideas” tailored for the “current moment.”

“I wonder if there are one or two spots, policy areas or approaches where you would say I’m a different person [than Joe Biden]?” asked Taff.

“My approach is about new ideas, new policies that are directed at the current moment. And also, to be very honest with you, my focus is very much in what we need to do over the next ten twenty years to catch up to the twenty first century,” Harris replied.

“I’m obviously not Joe Biden, and you know, I offer a new generation of leadership,” she said. Kamala then went on to provide examples that the Biden-Harris administration failed to achieve:

“And so, for example, thinking about developing and creating an opportunity economy where it’s about investing in areas that really need a lot of work, and maybe focusing on again, the aspirations and the dreams, but also just recognizing that at this moment in time, some of the stuff we could take for granted years ago, we can’t take for granted anymore. For example, another plan that I have that is a new approach is to expand the child tax credit to $6,000 for young families for the first year of their child’s life, because that is obviously a very critical stage of development of a child, and a lot of young parents need the help to buy a car seat or a crib or clothes for their kids.”

Taff inquired of Harris regarding her approach to reducing prices and enhancing affordability for individuals, to which Kamala replied with the same tired response of growing up as a ‘middle class kid.’

When questioned regarding her interpretation of former President Donald Trump’s appeal and how she would communicate this to his supporters, Harris provided a convoluted response that failed to address the question directly.

“I, based on experience and and a lived experience, know in my heart, I know in my soul, I know that the vast majority of us as Americans have so much more in common than what separates us,” she rambled. “And I also believe that I am accurate in knowing that most Americans want a leader who brings us together as Americans, and not someone who professes to be a leader who is trying to have us point our fingers at each other.”

“Let’s bring everybody together,” she said.

Harris lastly said she wants to ban guns. “I feel very strongly that it is consistent with the second amendment and your right to own a gun to say that we need an assault weapons ban,” she said. “They’re literally tools of war.”

“We’re not taking anybody’s guns away,” she added in the same breath.
