Former President Donald Trump received additional positive news with the release of a battleground state survey on Tuesday. The poll, which surveyed 800 registered voters from Elon College and was conducted from August 2 to August 9 in anticipation of the Democratic National Convention, indicated that Trump holds a slight edge over Vice President Kamala Harris in North Carolina, with a support margin of 46 to 44 percent.

However, it is noteworthy that both candidates face disapproval from a majority of those surveyed. “Our favorability data reveals that Trump and Harris enjoy comparable levels of support,” stated Professor Jason Husser, the director of the Elon University Poll.

The New York Post added:

“Trump is above water with men, with 50% approval. Harris, at 39%, is lagging with that sex. Meanwhile, 47% of women regard Harris favorably, with 43% saying the same about Trump. The favorability polling shows Trump is strongest with voters without a 4-year college degree; he’s at 52% with that group, with 43% disapproval. Another 5% have no opinion. Among unaligned voters, Trump has just 35% approval against 54% disapproval, with 11% of indy respondents uncommitted either way.”

Harris’s approval ratings among independent voters are comparable to those of Trump, standing at 34% approval, 51% disapproval, and 15% undecided regarding the California Democrat. The pollster indicates that these figures suggest a highly competitive landscape in North Carolina over the next 70 days.

“Having been won by Republican presidential candidates for three elections in a row, North Carolina is sometimes called into question as a swing state,” said Husser. “Our data show that North Carolina’s electoral votes remain up for grabs by either party, but winning those votes will involve navigating a divided, complex and engaged electorate.”

Although this poll indicates a lead for Trump, other studies reveal favorable outcomes for Harris within the state. A survey conducted by High Point University in North Carolina, known as the Tar Heel State Survey USA, took place from August 19 to 21 and reveals that Harris holds a marginal lead. She is ahead by 3 points among registered voters and by 2 points among those likely to vote. Furthermore, the FiveThirtyEight polling average for the state shows Harris leading by the narrowest of margins, a mere one-tenth of a percentage point, as reported by the New York Post.

On Monday, patrons at a northern Virginia restaurant known for its Vietnamese cuisine erupted in enthusiastic cheers upon Trump’s arrival, according to reports.

The 45th president visited the Truong Tien Vietnamese Restaurant in Falls Church, Virginia, accompanied by Hung Cao, a candidate for the U.S. Senate in Virginia. Cao, a graduate of the Naval Academy and a combat veteran, is campaigning to challenge the incumbent Democrat Sen. Tim Kaine.
