A group of House Republicans, including eight members who crossed party lines, joined Democrats in preventing the advancement of a resolution seeking to impeach Democratic President Joe Biden’s Homeland Security Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas. The articles of impeachment were introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
In a vote on Monday, the resolution was referred to committee, as eight Republicans sided with Democrats in a total vote tally of 209-201 in favor of the referral. The bipartisan support from these eight GOP lawmakers played a decisive role in the outcome.
On one side, 201 Democrats and the eight aforementioned Republicans voted to refer the resolution, while 201 Republicans opposed the move. Notably, 23 lawmakers, comprising 12 Democrats and 11 Republicans, did not vote on the resolution.

In a video statement shared on Twitter/X, Greene noted that among the eight Republicans who sided with Democrats in the vote, four serve on the House Judiciary Committee. She expressed frustration, stating that her articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas had been stagnant in the committee for months, accumulating dust without any progress.
Greene mentioned that, following the vote, her resolution would go back to the committee, where she anticipates it will once again remain inactive and collect dust.
