Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), the departing Senate minority leader, has given his endorsement to former President Donald Trump for the 2024 reelection campaign. McConnell’s backing of Trump signifies a show of unity in opposition to President Joe Biden. This endorsement was announced shortly following the withdrawal of former presidential candidate Nikki Haley from the Republican primary.

“It is abundantly clear that former President Trump has earned the requisite support of Republican voters to be our nominee for President of the United States,” McConnell said. “It should come as no surprise that as nominee, he will have my support.”

McConnell gave Trump credit for helping him “to accomplish great things for the American people” during his term in office. McConnell noted policy successes of “tax reform that supercharged our economy and a generational change of our federal judiciary — most importantly, the Supreme Court.”

“I look forward to the opportunity of switching from playing defense against the terrible policies the Biden administration has pursued to a sustained offense geared towards making a real difference in improving the lives of the American people,” McConnell said.

In light of health concerns and instances of freezing up during press conferences, McConnell made the decision in February to relinquish his leadership role. It is worth noting that he holds the record for being the longest-serving party leader in the history of the Senate.

During McConnell’s tenure, the national debt surged by over $30 trillion, unauthorized immigration persisted, and the wages of American workers remained unchanged. The implementation of Obamacare took place in 2010. In 2008, significant financial institutions were rescued, while social media platforms suppressed individuals without facing any consequences.
