Sean Hannity, a prominent figure on Fox News, delivered a significant caution to Republicans at all levels of government during a segment on Wednesday’s show. He highlighted a particular issue that has the potential to jeopardize their chances of winning elections if left unattended.
“We know what the playbook is,” Hannity said of Democrats’ 2024 strategy while speaking with three pollsters. “They will demagogue on abortion. Republicans, they better have a good answer. And they also need to understand where the country is.”
Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade in 2022, several Republican states have enforced abortion bans and restrictions. In contrast, Democrats have actively campaigned on this issue, successfully avoiding a predicted electoral setback in the 2022 midterms by narrowly losing the House but securing a Senate seat.
Democrats have additionally marked triumphs in different special elections across the country. Moreover, advocates for abortion rights have attained notable victories in ballot referenda, even in states that are typically conservative. Although Hannity identifies as “pretty pro-life,” he stated that Republicans should refrain from endorsing abortion bans prior to 15 weeks.
“That’s where the country is,” he said. “And if Republican politicians don’t understand that, then… they’re gonna get their asses kicked and they’re gonna lose.”
Robert Cahaly agreed:
“And it’s also the way you talk about it,” Cahaly said. “When the word ‘ban’ is being thrown around, Republicans are losing. When you start talking about ‘simple limitations,’ ‘reasonable limitations,’ and talking about the extreme being, ‘third-trimester abortion’ and ‘partial birth,’ Republicans are winning.”
