Ron Paul, a former Republican Representative from Texas, cautioned Tucker Carlson during an interview on Tuesday night about the possibility of an unexpected “black swan” event arising and emphasized the importance of Americans being prepared. Paul, who had a total of 12 terms in Congress over three separate periods, touched upon topics such as the conflict in Ukraine, criticisms of his foreign policy perspectives, and the potential threat of a third World War during the conversation with Carlson. He stressed the significance of being educated in order to navigate through such an event.

“I think we’re reaching this point where some sudden thing is going to happen,” Paul told Carlson. “I believe in that theory of the black swan. It’s going to pop up and it’s not going to be controllable.”

A “black swan event” is characterized as an exceptionally challenging event to foresee, with far-reaching repercussions that question fundamental assumptions, as stated by the Corporate Finance Institute. Instances include 9/11, Brexit, the dotcom crash, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“But people ask, what can they do? I think the most important thing is understand what’s going on,” Paul continued. “It’s education. That’s why I happen to have a home-schooling program that tries to teach this stuff early.”

Paul, who campaigned for the presidency under the Libertarian banner in 1988 and later as a Republican candidate in both 2008 and 2012, expressed to Carlson his belief that a significant number of individuals tend to prioritize misguided matters.

“Really, the most important thing you do is study and understand what’s going on,” Paul said. Because if you come away from that and you’re able accumulate a lot of… get by… you have your guns and stored food and all that. It’s not going to work. You have to understand what’s happening, you have to know what’s coming, it’s very, very dangerous, and that’s why I love to see smaller units of government.”
